Mexico is a poor country and government funding for the treatment of disabled children is very limited. Dedicated doctors need well trained physiotherapists, occupational therapists and speech and language therapists to give essential treatment to the children. Training for these specialties is not funded by the Government and is not very advanced.

Families with a disabled child usually have to struggle and fend for themselves often with terrible consequences for the children. Many of the children have cerebral palsy and if they are not treated early they develop deformities which deteriorate rapidly and become impossible to reverse.

Children with cerebral palsy need special wheelchairs, standing frames and other equipment which is readily available in this country, there are no manufacturers of this type of equipment in Mexico.

Many children need expert therapy to prevent the deformities as seen in this picture.
